State and Local Government Information

The Library has been a Tennessee State Depository Library since 1917. Attempts are made to acquire as many State public documents as possible. The Library also attempts to acquire all Memphis and Shelby County area local publications. Publications of other states and municipalities are collected at a minimum level.

This State of Tennessee web site provides information from all 22 state government departments plus the governor’s office.  Find contact information, a description of services, and important information published by the State to help you.

Tennessee General Assembly
Information about Tennessee state Senators and Representatives, including photographs of individual members and their E-Mail addresses, is available on this site. The legislative committees and their members and chairpersons are found here, as well as links to Legislative Staff Offices. There is also a link entitled "Legislative Information" which has a search engine which will allow a user to find bills and laws acted upon by the General Assembly. "Legislative Information" also provides links to the legislative sites of other states.

Tennessee State Courts
This site offers general information about the Supreme Court and other courts of Tennessee, as well as information on associated support agencies, commissions, and boards. Links to current and past Tennessee Courts of Appeal Opinions, Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals Opinions, and Worker’s Compensation Court Opinions are found here. Biographies of judges are also available here, as well as different judicial reports and newsletters dealing with the Tennessee judiciary system.
