Dear Library Supporter:

September is National Library Sign-up Month, an observance when the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country remind parents that a library card is the most important school supply of all. With that in mind, we couldn't think of a better time to present the new special edition design for the Memphis Public Library & Information Center's membership card.

Memphis College of Art students enrolled in the Give Back Program submitted sketches for potential designs to the Library. Five of the top sketches identified by Library staff were put to an online public vote, and a winning design was selected. After months of preparation, on Friday, August 29, 11 am at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, the card the community chose will be unveiled. This year's honorable chair is Superintendent Dorsey Hopson of Shelby County Schools.

Please join us on Friday, August 29 at 11 am in the lobby of the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library (3030 Poplar Avenue) for a press conference. Your presence would be appreciated as we acknowledge the talented artists from MCA and celebrate Memphis' new library card - the smartest card of all.
