At last! Homework done – fractions factored, language lesson learned, term paper notecards noted. After that, chores finished – trash out, dishes in, dog out and in. Finally, some time for me. Some time for fun.

  • The Internet Archive's Moving Image 
    Public domain movies and free moving images that can be download for fun or for school work.  The site has tons of items from old cartoons to old school instructional films.  Highlights include Edison's complete 1910 silent film- "Frankenstein" and Romero's 1968 "Night of the Living Dead".
  • Internet Movie Database
    IMDB is your go-to site for movies.  Need to know the name of an actor who played in a certain movie? Search here.  One of the cooler features of IMDB is that it links to your local box office show times.

  • Last.fm
    Lastfm maybe on its last leg in terms of popularity, but it was one of the first in the "smart" online music stations.  These smart stations allow you to hook up your music player into the downloaded online "console" and then learns about your music tastes by what you play.  It then brings you back suggestions of artists you may like.  Just one step away from your own personal music robot.
  • Lyrics.com
    One of the many lyrics websites, but this one won't give your computer a virus.
  • Pandora
    Another of the smart online radio stations.  Like Lastfm, you can create your own station based on a singular song or artist and Pandora will create a "radio station" for you with similar new and old artists.  You can "Like" the songs you,.. um, like and Pandora learns and gets better at bringing you your tunes.
  • Spotify
    Oh Mr. Zuckerberg, you have made Spotify both the have-to-have music player and the one that is so elusive to acquire.  In order to use Spotify to it's fullest potential (and, oh, does it have all kinds of possibilities), you have to log in using Facebook and pay a monthly fee for full access.
