Welcome to CLOUD901, Memphis Public Library and Information Center’s state-of-the-art social, creative, production, research and performance technology lab where teens ages 13-18 can develop 21st century skills including innovation, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving. At 8,300 square feet, it’s one of the biggest (and certainly one of the best) of its kind, providing access to top-of-the-line technology and training to Memphis’s most valuable resource: its youth.
Within these walls, teens of all skill levels—beginners and gurus alike—come together to hone invaluable 21st century skills. A dynamic mix of digital media, self-guided learning and expert-led workshops provide teens with the autonomy necessary for creative thought while still working within the safety and structure of the library. With video and audio production labs, editing and mixing stations, a performance area, a maker space, and plenty of collaboration and homework zones, CLOUD901 is both a creative outlet and a conduit, helping teens discover and cultivate the spark that will give them the edge necessary to succeed in the world beyond.
Absolutely free and open to all teens between the ages of 13-18 with a Memphis Library card, CLOUD901 encourages teens to try their hand at some of today’s most exciting creative projects. This innovative space provides an experiential learning opportunity that, when coupled with constantly evolving partnerships with local schools, universities, and the community, helps teens discover their own boundless potential. In addition to exposing teens to state-of-the-art technology, CLOUD901 translates that knowledge into career pathways, college opportunities, and workforce entry.
Here at CLOUD901, we believe in the enduring promise of the library—to provide free access to information, to be the great equalizer, and to serve as a steadfast foundation for the community at large. We believe that the library should not only be a cornerstone of the community, but one that is as vibrant and forward-thinking as the people it serves.
